On September 12, 2008 a Los Angeles based Metrolink commuter train collided with a freight train. The train accident has been reported to be one of the worst US passenger train accidents to happen in the past 15 years.
As of 9:33 am PST on September 13, 2008 officials have risen the death toll to 17 after more victims were discovered amongst the wreckage in Los Angeles, California.
According to reporters, emergency crews continue searching for survivors of the crash on Saturday morning.

On July 3, 2008, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Fireworks Over America, of Springfield, Missouri issued an urgent nationwide recall of the Oh Chute Parachute with Streamer Fireworks product.
The fireworks have been recalled due to the fact that the parachutes can become entangled in overhead power lines causing a shock hazard to users and bystanders. Fireworks Over America has received one report of entanglement, in which a consumer’s hand was burned and shocked.

On July 3, 2008 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Black Cat Fireworks, of Prairie Village, Kansas and Shiu Fung Fireworks, of China issued a nationwide recall of Screech and Scream Fountain Fireworks. The Black Cat® Screech and Scream Fountain Fireworks can produce a loud bang and unexpectedly scatter debris, posing an injury hazard to the user and bystanders.
The CPSC is advising: “Consumers should immediately stop using the product and return it to either the place of purchase or Black Cat Fireworks for a full refund.”
