Toy Recall
On November 13, 2008 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent nationwide recall of children’s two-way radios manufactured by Cobra Electronics.
Apparently, the rechargeable batteries in the radios can leak electrolyte, posing a chemical burn hazard to consumers. The recall involves two-way radios with the 300 mah “CEL” batteries. The walkie talkie style radios are made of pink plastic and come in purple packaging. Product number PR191-2VP is located on the front of the packaging and on the label inside the battery compartment. The batteries are standard AAA Nickle Metal Hydride battery cells with a black wrapper with the battery name 300 mah (CEL) with the date code (TF or RF) on the battery itself.
The recalled radios were sold by Toys “R” Us Stores nationwide from August 2008 through September 2008 for about $30.

On November 13, 2008 U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent nationwide recall of “CORAL Swim ‘N Score Pool Stix”, which were sold at Modell’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide from August 1999 to October 2008 for about $3.
Risk of Impalement: The recall occurred because children can fall or land on these dive sticks in shallow water and suffer impalement injuries. Eye and other facial injuries are also possible. In April 2001, CPSC banned certain types of dive sticks. The recalled Pool Stix are weighted plastic tubes, which stand upright when tossed into water. The sticks are about 8” long and were sold in packs of 6 in various colors. The UPC (#4969382814) is printed on the product’s packaging.

On November 13, 2008 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent nationwide recall of “My Little Train Classics Toy Trains” manufactured in China and imported by JA-RU Inc., of Jacksonville, Florida.
The recalled toy contain small parts which can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. My Little Train Classics wooden toy trains are available in two styles. One, with a yellow cab, blue body and six red wheels and the other with a blue cab, red boiler, wooden base and four black wheels. The item #5293 is the same for both styles and is located in the lower left hand corner on the front of the package.

On July 29, 2008 the U.S. Consumer product safety commission in association with Earthentree of Kirkland, Washington issued a nationwide recall of multiple wooden toys. The recall includes a variety of wooden toys including egg shakers (maracas), pull toys, rattles, and trains. The toys are painted glossy red, orange, green, brown, yellow or natural wood.
According to the CPSC, the recalled toys contain small parts or can break into small parts, posing a choking hazard. The recalled rattles violate the federal rattle standard. Some of the toys also have a string longer than 12 inches, which can pose a strangulation hazard to young children.

The wooden toys were sold through Earthentree’s website, fairs, trade shows and retail stores nationwide from December 2007 through May 2008 for about $7 to $34.

On July 24, 2008 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in association with Innovage LLC, of Foothill Ranch, California announced a nationwide recall of ”Sky Scrambler” and “The Sharper Image” Wireless Indoor Helicopters.
According to the CPSC, “the rechargeable lithium ion battery inside the helicopters can overheat, catch fire, and ignite nearby combustibles, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.”
The manufacturer has reported that they have received two reports of incidents of the toy helicopters igniting, including one burn injury to a consumer’s fingertip.
