Nationwide Polaris Snowmobile Recall Lawsuit
On July 11, 2008 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in association with Polaris Industries Inc., of Medina, Minnesota initiated a nationwide recall of the 550 LX, Trail Touring, and Trail Touring Deluxe snowmobiles due to a possible manufacturing defect wherein Cracks could form in the starter ring-gear and cause the ring-gear to fracture into several pieces. The broken pieces could be propelled out of the chassis of the machine at high speed causing serious injury or death to the rider and/or bystanders.

Thus far, Polaris has received 10 reports of loose ring-gear attachment bolts or broken gear teeth, however no injuries have been reported to date.
