On July 22, 2008 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in association with Electra Bicycle Company, LLC of Vista, California initiated a nationwide recall of the Amsterdam model bicycle.
According to the CPSC, “The interior alignment tabs of the bicycle’s chainguard can be pushed against the chain causing it to derail, which poses a risk of injury to riders.”
The manufacturer has received multiple reports of chain derailment and one report of injury linked to the defective chainguard.
